Personal Growth for the Strong Minded
Hello everyone and welcome to JimmyLofton.com. This is my very first post on the site, so I hope you enjoy. Today we’re going to get right down to the main topic of this website, personal growth for the strong minded. I hope you enjoy as I have worked hard to put this site together and work even harder with my posts. Here goes.
I gave the name, personal growth for the strong minded, to this site because it’s something that is true. You have to be strong minded in order to personally grow. There are so many ways to personally grow, but each and every one requires you to be strong minded. The definition of strong minded is:
Strong-mind∙ed:
1) Having a forceful and independent mind.
2) Determined or obstinate; strong-willed.
As you can see from the definition, it takes a certain level of dedication and commitment to accomplish personal growth. Don’t let this scare you, as soon as you experience personal growth the work required doesn’t seem so hard. In many cases it can be quite fun. Here’s a small example of how something that seems to hard can turn into fun at the end. When throwing this website together I knew for a fact that I wanted to use the program Word Press as my blog software. I’ve built custom content management systems for gaming websites in the past; however I am in no way a professional about it. I can just manage enough php and sql to make it work and function exactly how I want it to. After downloading and then uploading all the files to the server and installed, I dove right into editing the appearance to what I want. I opened up my editor of choice, which happens to be Crimson Editor. I took one good look at what I was going to be tampering with and was overwhelmed. I struggled for hours all the way into the early morning messing with all the files and still failing every step of the way. There were even times that I searched for another blog software alternative. I eventually stated to myself that I refuse to give up and came up with a better solution. I slept on the situation so that I could start the next day fresh and ready to go. The next day everything just clicked in my head. I finished everything I wanted to do with Word Press that day. I even enjoyed learning the way it works so much I was able to accomplish things I thought the program just couldn’t do. Overall, I kept my dedication up and by doing so my knowledge of the program increased and I not only enjoyed doing so I feel good about myself for accomplishing what I had.
The quote that’s stuck with me the most and keeps me determined might surprise you. I didn’t read it in a book or on the internet, it came from a movie. Coming from a movie doesn’t sound all that bad, but the movie that the quote comes from is a bit odd to hear. I give credit to this quote for a fair amount of accomplishments I have achieved as well.
“It’s not who you are on the inside, it’s your actions that defines you.” Quoted from Batman Begins.
Now I may not have it exactly word for word there, it has been awhile since I’ve seen the movie. I think about that statement quite frequently and it reminds me to stay motivated towards bettering myself. For those of you who think I must be joking, I’ll explain my reasoning with this. Take this for example. A man is walking down the street late at night heading for his house. He looks down an alley and sees a woman being mugged by a slimmer man with a knife. He thinks to himself I wish I could help save her, and then keeps heading home. A second man passes by and witnesses the mugger and the woman and also thinks to himself I wish I could help her. The difference between the first man and the second man is that the second man actually goes and fends off the mugger and saves the woman’s life. The point to this example is that you can either sit around thinking of how you’d like to take action in your life to help others or better yourself, or you can actually take charge and do it. The quote can be applied to many things in your life. Say for instance, instead of just thinking about how you’d like to go an extra step with your loved one by giving her the day off from house work is a good idea to have. However, actually getting up and giving her the day off from house work and taking care of it all for your loved one is an action towards helping that person while at the same time bettering yourself as a person. You have to put the mentality into your life that you CAN do more than just think about doing it and ACTUALLY DO IT! Build up the determination and willingness inside of you and go for it.
Unfortunately, this is all for my first post. I didn’t want to get to far in-depth with this one due to the fact that this post is meant to mostly give just a small taste of the subject matter I’m going after. Please check back as the next post will be up shortly.
